Terrova

The Minn Kota team at Johnson Outdoors needed to name a new trolling motor. This new line of electric-steering motors would be positioned as the ultimate in trolling motors, a step-up from Minn Kota’s existing PowerDrive line.

After 3 rounds of names, the Minn Kota team chose “Terrova”. The root “terr” came from the Latin for “earth” or “land”, as in subterranean, terraces, terrain, terrarium, and territory. Also, the root “rova” came from the acronym for a remotely operated vehicle, ROV, and the word “rove” as in to travel constantly without a fixed destination. So Terrova supported the positioning of a trolling motor that helped anglers rove across the water, elevating the fishing experience. The name was also easy to say and fit the distinctive, revolutionary positioning for the motor.

The Terrova trolling motor family has become regarded as one of the most technically advanced electric steer trolling motors to this day.
