Boosting Battery Smarts

The Need

Johnson Controls Power Solutions, the largest producer of automotive batteries in the world, created a mobile tool that helps in-store sales staff assist customers and more importantly, drive upsell to the premium, more profitable battery lines. Some of the top app features were product search, technology comparison, and battery diagnosis capabilities. Johnson Controls needed a name that was descriptive, empowering, and helpful for sales associates.

The Name

After 2 rounds of naming creative, BatteryQ was the chosen moniker. The Johnson Controls team liked that it was descriptive and conveyed “improving your battery IQ”.

They were also intrigued by the idea of “Q” as an icon for a magnifying glass or a symbol for “study”. The team also liked the variety of other words the “Q” could stand for, like quick, question, quotient, or quest.

The Result

The app was successfully rolled out in 11 different languages across 4 continents on iOS and Android – including China.
